idill is an international online film competition set up by Charleroi/Danses in Brussels, Sadler's Wells in London and La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris, in collaboration with TV channel Arte.

The aim of idill is to reveal and reward cinematographic and audiovisual creativity that has dance - and more broadly, movement - as its central theme. Particular attention is also focused on the musical dimension that accompanies or underpins the cinematographic work.

The choice of the format - less than 5 minutes - is intended to encourage entries from creators who do not necessarily have access to the facilities or budgets to create longer - format films. The shorter format also represents a deliberate artistic choice, and aims to encourage a highly specific cinematographic language.

A jury of professionals from the audiovisual and dance sector, including Sadler's Wells Producer Emma Gladstone, selected the winning entries. The films were screened at the winners' prize-giving ceremony in Brussels, November 2009, as part of the 2009 Charleroi/Danses Biennial. The winning films can be seen here, as well as www.arte.tv and Gaîté's upcoming website.
