Big Dance

Big Dance is a biennial dance festival featuring 9 days of dance in unusual spaces throughout London shops, parks, galleries, shopping centres and theatres - showcasing the diversity of dance styles in the capital. The next Big Dance will take place across the UK from 7 - 15 July 2012 and includes a 7-week countdown period starting on 18 May 2012.
Sadler's Wells is delighted to have the opportunity to lead the Big Dance activity on behalf of the North London Hub. As Olympic fever hits London in 2012, the event is a fantastic opportunity for north London residents to engage with local, national and international dancers and dance artists.
Sadler's Wells has a long history of hosting artists from across the globe and working closely with Associate Artists. In order to reflect the ethos of the Olympics, Sadler's Wells' Creative Learning department, Connect, is drawing on these links and will encourage residents of north London to participate in events ranging from street corner performances to large scale theatre productions, all of which have their roots in international dance styles.
Connect already has well established relationships with its neighbouring boroughs and through the overall aims of Big Dance the diverse dance activity in the area will be reflected. Sadler's Wells envisages delivering a programme of activity which encompasses the boroughs of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey and Islington, involving all sections of the community and encouraging everyone to take part in some form of dance.
