Jam Free

A dance development initiative for outer London based School Sports Partnerships designed to kick-start dance in SSP's with little existing provision or expertise.

Jam Free is a London Youth Dance/Sadler's Wells performance project for School Sports Partnerships based in outer London boroughs, designed to inspire girls aged 11 - 16 yrs to take part in physical activity. The project is replicated each year in a number of School Sports Partnerships, each project managed by commissioned Jam Free Partners (local dance agencies, venues or companies). The project funds a ten week after school dance club tasked with working towards the creation of a performance piece. A Jam Free Performance is then hosted at a school within the School Sports Partnership and young people from other schools and the local community are invited to attend. The performance consists of:

  • The Jam Free Dance Club piece
  • Work by three guest London based Youth Dance Groups
  • Work by a professional choreographer (The Blueprint Bursary Winner)
Following the performance, each Jam Free Dance Club is invited to perform at a celebratory performance at the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler's Wells. Each Partnership is also visited by the professional choreographer within curriculum time prior to the Jam Free Performance. Their session will include a repertoire based practical workshop and an opportunity for Q&A about their creative process. A Teachers Pack is also available to all schools within the Partnership.
