Ballet CYMRU
Critics Circle Award-winning company Ballet CYMRU present a mixed bill of work over two evenings, featuring some of Wales’ most outstanding artists.
Friday 16 November
Little Red Riding Hood / Three Little Pigs
Legendary children’s author Roald Dahl was born in Llandaff, Cardiff. To celebrate his life and work, Ballet CYMRU has been granted permission by The Dahl Foundation to produce two ballets based on sections of Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes; Little Red Riding Hood and The Three Little Pigs.
Both works will feature the internationally recognisable musical scores by Paul Patterson, and will be brought to life by choreographer and Creative Wales Award-winner Darius James. With sets and costumes by Steve Denton.
Saturday 17 November
Cold Rolling / TIR
Following the success of Ballet CYMRU’s participation in Marc Reece’s Adain Avion project celebrating Welsh Culture, choreographer Tanya Råman presents a brand new work – Cold Rolling.
Inspired by the ghosts and remnants of Ebbw Vale’s industrial past, Cold Rolling sees 10 dancers perform vibrant choreography exploring the spatial patterns within the body and its surrounding environment. With a soundtrack composed by Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama’s John Hardy performed by the Ebbw Vale Male Voice Choir, the piece will also feature lighting and video design by John Collingswood.
TIR is inspired by Welsh singer/songwriter Cerys Matthews’ iconic album of Welsh Folk Music and choreographed by Darius James and Amy Doughty. Matthews once fronted one of Wales’ biggest pop exports, Catatonia, and will play the music for this show live on stage.
