Birmingham Royal Ballet — Strictly Dancing / Edward ll

Archived Show
BRB return with two contrasting programmes. Strictly Dancing features the exuberant last act of Paquita, which showcases the skill, grandeur and panache of the 19th-century master choreographer, Marius Petipa.

In Twyla Tharp’s Nine Sinatra Songs seven couples tango, waltz and jive, gloriously celebrating Frank Sinatra, the 1950s and the seductive thrill of ballroom dancing. Finally BRB perform Frederick Ashton’s pastoral love story of passion and pirates, Daphnis and Chloë – which has never before been seen in the UK outside The Royal Ballet.

"Passion, seduction, sequins, glamour and wit all add up to an acrobatic, dizzy modern dance extravaganza"
THE STAGE on Nine Sinatra Songs

Director David Bintley’s astonishing interpretation of Marlowe’s dark epic Edward II is set during a scandalous era of English history - where the grim reaper hides round every corner.

Exquisite evocations of cruel medieval England are created by John McCabe’s score, which is reinforced by Jasper Conran’s lavish and licentious leather costumes.

"Plenty of dark delights...highly recommended"
