Searching the country to salvage his lost fortune, a once-wealthy merchant seeks shelter in a mysterious castle, where invisible forces tend to his every need. The merchant’s older daughters have demanded gifts of gold, jewels and fine clothes; the youngest, Belle, has asked for a single rose.

But when the merchant plucks just one bloom from the garden of the castle he unleashes a fearsome Beast, who exacts a terrible forfeit: in return for the merchant’s life, he must send his daughter Belle to live in the castle. As the dazzlingly beautiful Belle prepares to meet her beastly captor, she is about to discover for herself the meaning of true love.

Created by Birmingham Royal Ballet’s director, David Bintley, and recently back from a sell-out tour of Japan, this classic fairytale now comes to Sadler's Wells with its story of passion and prejudice.

Le Baiser de la fée
Birmingham Royal Ballet’s homage to composer Igor Stravinsky boasts another coup for 2008, with a brand-new version of Le Baiser de la fée by choreographer Michael Corder. This beautiful ballet breathes life into Hans Christian Andersen’s chilling fairytale The Ice Maiden. Enthralled by a child lost in the mountains, the Ice Maiden gives him a kiss – one that he will never escape.

"Every one of Baiser's 45 minutes is filled with bright, buoyant dancing"
THE GUARDIAN on Le Baiser de la fée

The Firebird
The Firebird is an enchanting magical Russian fairytale in which love conquers evil. In the eerie garden of the menacing ogre Kostcheï, a high tree bears an imprisoned princess and a golden apple. Armed with just a magical feather, the prince journeys to save the captured princess and win her heart.

"A first-class all-round show of this magnificent fairytale"
DAILY TELEGRAPH on The Firebird

Petrushka
Since its 1911 premiere by the Ballets Russes, Petrushka has remained an anarchic force on stages around the world. In Fokine’s ballet all the wild fun of the ButterWeek Fair in St Petersburg floods the stage, and unruly Petrushka is soon creating havoc. Then, one wooden step too far, this harlequin meets a very mortal end – but there’s spirit in the old doll yet.

"Handsomely staged"
THE INDEPENDENT on Petrushka
