Antonio Gades Company — Fuenteovejuna

Archived Show

Part of Flamenco Festival London 2012

Antonio Gades is one of the most important flamenco choreographers of all time, an innovator who introduced all the drama of the theatre to the flamenco stage, creating legendary versions of Blood Wedding, Carmen and this year’s performance, Fuenteovejuna.

This will be the first time Fuenteovejuna has been performed since Gades passed away in 2004, based on the Lope de Vega play of the same name, it is based on real events in the 17th century. Written between 1612 and 1614 it tells of a whole village in Andalusia rebelling against the tyranny of a local nobleman. With stunning ensemble sequences, Fuenteovejuna is full of dynamic rhythms, beautiful period costumes and dazzling lighting.

The work of Antonio Gades is unrivalled for delivering “drama of the highest order” (The Times) and “gutsy authenticity” (Time Out), don’t miss this rare opportunity to see it here in London.
