Excellent! - Music and Dance Scheme

Excellent! is a vibrant celebration of the achievement of the country’s most talented young dancers and musicians. On 15 July, over 350 performers from schools and schemes supported by the Department for Children, School’s and Families’ Music and Dance Scheme will come together for the first time ever to perform work that has been created for especially for the event.
Sadler’s Wells will be bursting at the seams with music and dance; a jazz ensemble, Scottish piper, a wind quintet, and a site-specific dance work will fill the foyers and outdoor spaces at the beginning of the evening. Performances in the main auditorium will begin with choristers singing the Excellent! anthem, composed for the event by Howard Goodall. Following this will be a classical work created and performed by the Royal Ballet School and Yehudi Menuhin School, one of fourteen specially commissioned music and dance collaborations that also include a piece choreographed by Henri Oguike to music composed by Keith Tippett.
During the interval audiences will be treated to a Cutlery Concerto for voice, cutlery and tools, more performances in the foyers and the end of the interval will be signalled by a specially commissioned fanfare, which schools have entered a unique competition to compose and perform.
