The Light Garden is a new installation by award-winning experimental filmmaker Rachel Davies that welcomes visitors into an enchanting cinematic indoor camping scene.
Children are given torches to shine on iridescent shapes, which light up and encourage them to explore. They can follow an animated river, sit by a smouldering campfire, explore a magical cave, glowing tents and a beanbag hillside with crawling bugs. With illuminated switches around them, they can even control the weather over the campsite.
Over the course of 20 minutes day shifts to night and the illusion of twilight is created by a darkening canopy of sky and the occasional flickering of fireflies, projected by a disco ball.
Making its world premiere at Sadler’s Wells as part of Family Weekend, The Light Garden promises to be an engaging, interactive experience for all.
Free for ticket holders with children under 4 years.
