Guy Cools with Rosemary Butcher - body:language series

For nearly three decades, Rosemary Butcher has been one of the UK's most consistently radical and innovative choreographers. Since the 1970s, she has been developing her own movement language and choreographic form based around conceptual art, pure movement and complex handling of space.
- "The architectural need to create 'centres' explains itself by the human need to create a vertical axis between earth and heaven (the chimney, the village tree,...) to orientate oneself in the horizontal chaos of the natural world. In a similar way the energetic body of the dancer creates a centre in the empty space of the stage. With Rosemary we look back at her life-long career and the relationship between the body and architecture, which is so essential to her work."
- GUY COOLS
This special event is an opportunity to see Butcher in discussion with Guy Cools, an international curator, writer, and dramaturg who has worked on several productions well known to Sadler's Wells audiences including zero degrees and Sacred Monsters. He is currently teaching, writing, lecturing and publishing in Europe and Canada.
