Mark Morris Dance Group — Mixed Programme
Celebrated throughout the world, Mark Morris has become a benchmark of creativity for a generation of dancers, choreographers and audiences. Here, the master of American contemporary dance presents two programmes showcasing brand new choreographies alongside classic works.
- "With most choreographers the dancing takes precedence over the score. With Morris, aided by his superb dancers and musicians, there is no conflict. Our ears are as marvellingly attuned to the work as our eyes" *****
- THE GUARDIAN, 29 Oct 2009
- "A towering talent. When you have lost your faith in the power of pure dance to touch the heart and feed the head, this is where you come to have faith restored" *****
- THE TIMES, 29 Oct 2009
- "A joy to watch" ****
- EVENING STANDARD, 28 Oct 2009
Programme One features Bedtime, set to music by Franz Schubert, and V set to music by Robert Schumann plus the UK premiere of Empire Garden, which features 15 dancers from the Mark Morris Dance Group and is set to a score by Charles Ives for strings and piano.
- "Blissful. If Mark Morris isn't the greatest living creative artist in any art form, who is?"
- THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
- "The return to Britain of Mark Morris is a true cause for celebration"
- THE GUARDIAN
The UK premiere of Visitation will open Programme Two, with nine dancers performing to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Sonata no. 4 in C major.
