Matthew Bourne returns to Sadler’s Wells with New Adventures’ first new production in three years, reinventing Oscar Wilde’s gothic fable Dorian Gray as a darkly seductive dance theatre event.

Set in the image-obsessed world of contemporary art and politics, Matthew Bourne’s ‘black fairy tale’ tells the story of an exceptionally alluring young man who makes a pact with the devil. Amongst London’s beautiful people, Dorian Gray is the ‘It Boy’ - an icon of beauty and truth in an increasingly ugly world.

The destructive power of beauty, the blind pursuit of pleasure and the darkness and corruption that lie beneath the charming façade; the themes behind Oscar Wilde’s cautionary tale have never been more timely.

Matthew Bourne’s much-anticipated production reunites the team that created the double Olivier award-winning hit Play Without Words - designer Lez Brotherston, composer Terry Davies and lighting designer Paule Constable.

New Adventures – a Sadler’s Wells Resident Company – is the foremost dance theatre company in the UK, having created an enormous new audience for dance with a series of highly popular productions including Nutcracker!, The Car Man, Edward Scissorhands and the now legendary Swan Lake.
