WORLD PREMIERE

Morphoses / The Wheeldon Company returns to Sadler’s Wells with an impressive company of dancers and two dynamic programmes.

"Morphoses / The Wheeldon Company is a dream ballet troupe"
NEW YORK TIMES

Programme One is a centenary celebration of Les Ballets Russes, inspired by the legendary company’s commitment to creating innovative, collaborative productions with the seminal artists of its time.

This ambitious programme features Christopher Wheeldon's Commedia, which premiered at Sadler's Wells last year to wide acclaim, and features Royal Ballet stars Edward Watson and Leanne Benjamin. There's also a brand new work by Tim Harbour, one of Australia's most exciting new young choreographers, and Alexei Ratmansky's Boléro, which was created for the Bolshoi and is set to the music of Maurice Ravel.

"**** When Wheeldon goes into traditional territory, he shows us new views"
THE GUARDIAN

For Programme Two, husband and wife choreographic team Paul Lightfoot and Sol León, resident choreographers of Nederlands Dans Theater, re-choreograph one of their existing works, Softly as I Leave You, specifically for Morphoses dancers Drew Jacoby and Rubinald Pronk. Christopher Wheeldon presents two works set to piano scores – the beautiful Continuum, performed to the music of Ligeti, plus a world premiere, Rhapsody Fantaisie set to Suites for Two Pianos by Rachmaninoff.

On Sat 24 October at 2.30pm, audiences have the opportunity to see Morphoses Up Close, as the company presents new works in the Lilian Baylis Studio at Sadler’s Wells, introduced by Christopher Wheeldon. Tickets for this event are available separately, priced at £12.
