New English Ballet Theatre — Synergies
New English Ballet Theatre is an ambitious new venture inspired by impresario Sergei Diaghilev’s cross-discipline approach to bringing new works to the stage. For Synergies, the company of 18 young dancers will showcase their talent by performing a mixed bill of world renowned choreography and four premieres by emerging choreographers.
Among the premieres will be a piece choreographed by Jenna Lee set to Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1. An up and coming choreographer, Lee trained at the Royal Ballet Lower School and English National Ballet School. She currently performs as the First Artist with English National Ballet. George Williamson, has danced with the Polish National Ballet and has recently been commissioned to choreograph the world premiere of a new Firebird for English National Ballet, for these performances he presents a new work set to Bach keyboard concerto in D Minor 1st and 2nd movements. A third premiere comes in the form of Ernst Meisner’s piece set to Mozart Symphony No. 39, 1st and 4th movement. Meisner is a former Royal Ballet dancer who has also choreographed for the company and has been invited to choreograph for English National Ballet.
Other works on the bill include English National Ballet Artistic Director Wayne Eagling’s celebrated Resolution, set to Mahler and a work by Andrew McNicol set to Fauré’s Sonata No.1. McNicol is a rapidly rising star in the ballet world who has recently been commissioned to choreograph the National Youth Ballet’s production of Chocolat.
Patrons of New English Ballet Theatre include Darcey Bussell, Carlos Acosta and Mara Galeazzi, along with guest choreographers Wayne Eagling and Samantha Raine – who will all join this endeavour to nurture the talents of a new generation of dancers, choreographers, musicians, artists and designers.
