Opera North — Skin Deep/Of Thee I Sing/Let 'Em Eat Cake
Opera North presents Skin Deep, a new operetta by multi award winning writer and broadcaster Armando Iannucci and a double bill of star-spangled Broadway treats - George Gershwin's Pulitzer Prize-winning Of Thee I Sing, and its sequel Let 'Em Eat Cake.

Composer David Sawer (From Morning to Midnight). collaborates with Armando Iannucci (I'm Alan Partridge, The Thick of It) and theatre director Richard Jones to present a new satirical operetta about society's obsession with staying young and beautiful. Dr Needlemeier, the king of cosmetic surgery is a busy man with a dark secret - he's concocting an elixir of youth. Will he ever be able to face the ugly truth that beauty is more than skin deep? Conducted by Opera North's music director Richard Farnes.

OF THEE I SING / LET 'EM EAT CAKE
Opera North presents two star-spangled Broadway treats from George Gershwin. Get swept up in the glitz and glamour of a 1930s election where democracy is the last thing on everyone's mind. Conducted by Mark Dorrell ('Sing) and Wyn Davies ('Cake), and directed by Caroline Gawn, these musicals are given the unique Opera North treatment - great orchestra, big chorus and high production values - and a cast who can do full justice to Gershwin's magnificent music.
Of Thee I Sing was Gershwin's longest running musical, and was written by George Kaufman and Morrie Ryskind, who regularly collaborated with the Marx Brothers.
