Compañia María Pagés – extract from Sevilla & Canciones antes de una Guerra
One of the leading innovators in the development of modern flamenco, María Pagés has been awarded the National Dance Award, Spain’s highest honour for dance.
Here she performs an extract from Sevilla, a sumptuous tribute to her hometown which explores the beginnings of her adventure in flamenco. The full version of this show will be performed in March as part of Flamenco Festival 2008 at Sadler’s Wells.
Alina Cojocaru & Nehemiah Kish - Prokofiev pas de deux (Wheeldon)
Christopher Wheeldon is one of the dance world's most respected classical choreographers. He recently became a Sadler's Wells Associate and his new company, Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company, made their debut at Sadler’s Wells in September 2007.
For Sampled, Royal Ballet principal dancer Alina Cojocaru and National Ballet of Canada principal dancer Nehemiah Kish will perform Wheeldon's beautiful Prokofiev pas de deux.
Boy Blue – extract from Pied Piper
Established in 2001 by dancer/choreographer Kenrick "H2O" Sandy and music producer Michael Asante, Boy Blue have since gone from strength to strength and are now firmly established as one of the most respected streetdance companies in the UK.
Having wowed audiences at Breakin’ Convention three years in a row with their razor-sharp moves, here they return to Sadler’s Wells with an extract from their Olivier Award-winning show Pied Piper.
Salah – Dream of Gluby
Salah is a master of the art of popping, locking, breaking and freestyle – winning competitions in each of these disciplines which form the cornerstones of Hip Hop Dance. He also happens to be a born entertainer and his recent victory on the French TV show Incroyable Talent has now made him a household name in his home country.
Dream of Gluby mixes dance with clowning and amazing vocal trickery in a fantastic display of skill that is both technically astounding and at the same time laugh-out-loud funny.
Jasmin Vardimon – extract from Yesterday
Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Jasmin Vardimon’s lavishly theatrical choreography is an explosive fusion of dance and physical theatre that allows audiences to enjoy dance from a refreshing new perspective.
In celebration of the company’s tenth anniversary, Yesterday is a retrospective new work featuring some of the most breathtaking duets, striking solos and iconic moments selected from the company's repertoire, all of which remains as stirring and socially relevant as ever.
Ballet Boyz – Yumba vs. Nonino
Michael Nunn and William Trevitt left The Royal Ballet to form their own company back in 2001 with one goal: to offer a new way to see choreography of the highest quality. Since then they have built up a formidable repertoire of 32 different works, created by the leading choreographers of our time.
Here, they perform their new tango triumph Yumba vs. Nonino, created especially for their Royal Festival Hall gala in 2007 by the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood.
Hofesh Shechter – In Your Rooms
Hofesh Shechter is one of the UK’s most talked-about young choreographers, delivering intensely physical, breathtaking work that immediately connects with audiences.
Here, Shechter will perform an extract from In Your Rooms, performed at Sadler’s Wells in September 2007 to great acclaim as the culmination of an unprecedented co-production across London’s three major dance venues: Sadler’s Wells, The Place and the South Bank Centre.
From 6pm on each night, there will be games, installations and performances on every floor of the theatre - so come early to make the most of the 'Sampled' experience.
