Sang Jijia — Snow/Duet

Archived Show

Sang Jijia is the first Tibetan to train and perform professionally in modern dance. He danced and choreographed for the Guangdong Modern Dance Company (China's first modern dance company) before joining Hong Kong's foremost modern dance company in 1999. He has distinguished himself as a dancer of extraordinary talent and ability, performing to rave reviews in both Asia and the West, and collaborating with leading choreographers including William Forsythe.

A top-prize winner in China, he is successfully carving out his own choreographic place in China's rapidly evolving dance world. His solo Snow will be accompanied by a new work Duet,  with Sheu Fang-Yi, the acclaimed dancer from Cloudgate Dance Theatre of Taiwan and former Principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company.

“Sang Jijia, a striking tall dancer from Tibet dances with riveting charisma”
THE NEW YORK TIMES

The performance is followed by a discussion, "How do approaches to creation and touring differ between the UK and China?" with Sang Jijia and UK choreographer Fin Walker, who has been choreographing on Beijing Modern Dance Company this spring.
