The Castaways
Featuring works by Mark Baldwin, Barak Marshall and Ashley Page

Rambert, a powerhouse of dance in Britain since 1926, presents an exhilarating triple bill of world class dance and live music by the Rambert Orchestra – featuring two premieres by two very different but equally extraordinary choreographers.

At the heart of the programme is The Castaways, a London premiere by Barak Marshall, one of America’s most prominent choreographers. The Castaways is a humorous and uplifting tale set to a vibrant mix of traditional Yiddish music and American popular tunes from the 1950s. Celebrated for his unique style combining inventive choreography and witty theatricality, Barak’s work “possesses a formidable joie de vivre, an enchantment, which pulls [you] into a magical world” (La Republique).

**** "The Castaways closes the show in crowd-pleasing style […] combined with an exuberant and compelling performance from the company the outcome is sheer enjoyment"

The performance also features Ashley Page’s striking new work. In Subterrain, five couples flow and ebb with and against the music as if it were an electric field on which they surf. This is Ashley’s first UK dance commission since he left Scottish Ballet last year.

Rambert Artistic Director Mark Baldwin brings back The Comedy of Change, his interpretation of Darwin’s theories set to music by Julian Anderson. With its animal mannerism, spinal connections, loose limbed and tight steps, “visually, musically and choreographically the piece is a winner” (The Observer).

Don’t miss this visually captivating performance by “the most musical, muscular, versatile contemporary dance troupe in Britain” (Daily Telegraph).
