Richard Alston Dance Company — Tangent / Chacony / Gypsy Mixture
Richard Alston’s newest creation comes to Sadler’s Wells as part of a triple bill. Chacony is inspired by the richness and nobility of Henry Purcell’s Chaconne, and Britten’s tribute to it. This extraordinary music will be played live onstage by a string quartet.
Martin Lawrance’s Tangent intertwines four couples as they attack the tango, accompanied by Astor Piazzolla’s Quatro Estaciones Porteños, played live by Jason Ridgway on piano.
Richard Alston’s hugely popular Gypsy Mixture, revived for the first time in a decade, brings with it a 21st century take on traditional Balkan folk music.
