Sadler’s Wells is a world-leading dance house, with a spirit of creative innovation and artistic collaboration at its heart. It is a place where artists come together to create dance and people of all ages and backgrounds come to experience it.

We believe the future of the art form relies on nurturing talented artists at every stage of their career and we do this through a number of partnerships and artist development initiatives.

Here are the different ways in which we support artists and their work:

Associate Artists

Sadler's Wells’ Associate Artists are key to our artistic vision and the most exciting talents working in dance today. Their work represents a core part of our programme each season.

New Wave Associates

The New Wave Associates initiative supports artists in the early stages of their career. Alongside commissions of new work and the opportunity to premiere it on our stage, each artist is offered a tailored package of support, including research time, technical support and professional and artistic guidance.

Young Associates

The Young Associates programme supports talented 18 to 24-year-olds for two years, providing a crucial first step into their career as choreographers. The artists receive a tailored course of professional development and support, including the opportunity to present their work as part of the Sadler’s Wells artistic programme.

Resident Companies

Some of the companies of our Associate Artists have offices at our north London home, enabling us to support them in additional ways and bring them closer to us.

Associate Company

We appointed English National Ballet as Associate Company at Sadler’s Wells in November 2014 in recognition of our longstanding relationship with them and our commitment to presenting them in two annual seasons each year.

International Associate Companies

Rosas and Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch were appointed International Associate Companies at Sadler's Wells in November 2015, in recognition of our longstanding relationship with them. In November 2016, they were joined by Carlos Acosta’s Acosta Danza. Sadler's Wells is the UK home of these international companies.

National Partner Companies

As the UK's world-leading dance house, we aim to develop and strengthen the dance sector nationwide. Our three National Partner Companies are given the opportunity to develop their practice, present their work on our stages and build their audiences.

Artist Residencies 2021

Our new Artists Residencies programme aims to support independent artists (dancers and choreographers) to get back into the studio, giving them the agency to work on whatever is interesting for them in their practice without any expectation for a particular outcome. This is an investment for artists to think and play. The programme is currently open for expressions of interest and the programme will run between May and November 2021.

We're thrilled to welcome you back to our theatres. In line with Government guidance, we're removing social distancing, but you can read more on how we're continuing to prioritise health and wellbeing during your visit.
