Christmas 2017 at Sadler’s Wells
Sadler’s Wells presents three diverse Christmas shows this festive season, offering something for all the family to get into the Christmas mood. Including the record-breaking return of The Snowman (23 November – 31 December), Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella (9 December – 27 January) and the enchanting The Little Match Girl (13 – 24 December).

Twinkling with festive spirit, The Snowman has transported children into the wintery wonderland of a boy and his magical snowman for a record-breaking 20 consecutive years at The Peacock. With a magical mix of exquisite dancing and live music – including Walking in the Air – friendship is kindled as the two embark on a starry-skied adventure to the North Pole, where they meet dancing penguins, reindeer, Father Christmas, Ice Princess, and escape the clutches of Jack Frost.
Based on the book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates, The Snowman is a much-loved festive tradition of storytelling, spectacle and magic. The production has music and lyrics by Howard Blake, choreography by Robert North, direction by Bill Alexander, design by Ruari Murchison and lighting by Tim Mitchell.

Following the sold-out and critical success of The Red Shoes, New Adventures returns to Sadler’s Wells this Christmas with Cinderella – a thrilling love story set in London during the Second World War, which forms part of the company’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
A chance meeting results in a magical night for Cinderella and her dashing young RAF pilot, together
just long enough to fall in love before being parted by the horrors of the Blitz.
Matthew Bourne’s Cinderella takes the audience into the heart of Prokofiev’s magnificent score, with surround sound designed by Paul Groothuis, and a specially commissioned recording of a 60-piece orchestra, Lez Brotherston’s Olivier Award-winning designs and lighting by Olivier Award-winning Neil Austin.

Celebrated director and choreographer Arthur Pita returns for the fourth time to the Lilian Baylis Studio this Christmas with his magical dance theatre show The Little Match Girl. Based on Hans Christian Andersen's classic story, this tale of a young street girl's hopes and dreams is told through dance, song and original music performed live.
Our unlikely heroine is an impoverished girl, who wanders the ever-darkening streets with just one final match to keep her warm on a cold Christmas Eve. The Little Match Girl is a timeless fable about kindness and helping others, which will enthral young children and the whole family alike.
