Jonzi D —— Lyrikal Fearta: The Letter & Broken Lineage

Watch video clip

Sadler's Wells Associate Artist Jonzi D presents a triple bill, including his acclaimed solo The Letter, which debuted in 2012 at Sadler's Wells' Lilian Baylis Studio. The evening also features a top guest artist, and Jonzi presents a new work, continuing three decades as a pioneering creative voice in hip hop dance theatre.

Co-directed by Dawn Walton, The Letter explores the responses to Jonzi being offered an MBE. Using choreopoetic language, he paints a picture of "stunning rythmical clarity" (The Stage), looking at this senstive subject matter through the eyes of an animated cast of characters. The Letter is accompanied by a commissioned score played live by member of Speakers Corner Quartet Kwake Bass.

The evening will also feature a newly commissioned piece, exploring the broken lineage between the old skool and new skool generations, bringing Jonzi's unique perspective to evolving social issues. An exciting collaboration with Ivan Blackstock of BirdGang Dance Company, it promises to captivate audiences with Jonzi's trademark wit, social insight and style.

"The name Jonzi D shouts respect in circles of hip hop dance theatre"
