James Thiérrée is one of Europe’s most endlessly inventive and unclassifiable artists, constructing epic dream-like spectacles that are inspiring and captivating.
Born into the circus, his performances on stage and screen have often drawn on this colourful background. Constantly researching and developing his practice, Thiérrée now defies the codes of circus, dance and theatre, performed on a breathtaking scale.

For Tabac Rouge Thiérrée shifts his movement language to dance whilst retaining traces of his origins in contemporary circus and his unmistakeable theatrical inventiveness. The imposing sets create a dark and ominous environment; a massive panel of tangled tubes and mirrors flips and turns centre stage. Moving incessantly across the staging as it re-shapes, the dancers execute random steps in space.
Tabac Rouge is a fascinating world in which mystery, mirrors, music and movement combine to catapult you into the unfathomable logic of dreams. Thiérrée marks his return to London after an absence of four years, with a vibrant tribute to dance and theatre.
