Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s hugely influential Rosas company returns to Sadler’s Wells with the UK premiere of an atmospheric evening of contemporary dance and a music masterpiece. This bold new piece celebrates the intricacies of Vortex Temporum, one of the last pieces from the late French composer Gérard Grisey.

Considered a pioneer of the spectral music genre, Grisey’s work shows a fascination with musical pattern and time. The music offers both a harmony typical of the spectral genre, based on the acoustic properties of sound, and a sense of circular and spiral motions – patterns often associated with performances by Rosas.

Working with this complex score, the dancers of Rosas pair with their long-time collaborators, the musicians of Ictus, to create a “magical” and “visceral” (Le Monde) dance-concert experience.

In this groundbreaking new work, De Keersmaeker investigates how time contracts, expands and moves in a vortex in this choreographic exploration of music, dance and spatial dynamics.

“Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker opens doors, even batters some down; she is a major artist”
