Darbar comes to Sadler’s Wells for the first time, building on its success since launching over ten years ago. A carefully crafted invitation to delve into the best of current classical Indian music, this year Darbar reaches out to its sister art form by presenting classical dance as well as music.

Alongside revered musical masters of the Indian subcontinent and new talents, Darbar and Sadler’s Wells join forces to offer an unprecedented classical dance programme specially curated by Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist Akram Khan. A rare chance to experience live the vibrancy and emotional power of these two art forms, firmly rooted in tradition yet in constant reinvention.

Also taking place throughout the festival is the Red Dress Project, a performance and photography project offering a unique insight into India in the 21st Century.

"Darbar was everything a classical festival should be: a finely balanced blend of traditional forms and modern fusions, that jumped at the chance to both address its social history and engage with its cultural subject matter as a living tradition"

Darbar Festival is part of the UK-India Year of Culture 2017 celebrating deep culture ties and the 70th anniversary of Indian independence.
