Wild Card brings fresh perspectives from a new generation of dance makers curating special evenings.

Originally from Italy, choreographer and curator Gianluca Vincentini is passionate about nurturing dance artists. Curious about the entwined nature of movement and emotion, Vincentini believes that dance can reveal the complexity of our intimate connections to each other, without compromising entertainment.

For Wild Card, he showcases some of the most promising dance makers based in the North of England: Carlos Pons Guerra with his kitschy flamenco-infused kitchen drama O Maria: A Divine Comedy of Ham and Bondage, Crystal Zillwood’s articulate and thoughtful solo Evolutio and Jamaal Burkmar (New Adventures Choreographer Award-winner) with The Calm, a feel good work that takes memories about home and family to create an abstract piece rooted in neo-soul music and movement.

The evenings also introduces Vincentini’s company Möbius Dance, devoted to working with early career artists. Pre-show, Vincentini presents a short dance film and a structured improvisation with Möbius Dance artists entitled Encounter One. The work features musician Otis Jones, artist Ben Skinner, videographer Joshua Hughes-Games and dancers Stefania Pinato and Amarnah Amuludun.
