Workshops

The Sadler's Wells Sampled workshops are a great opportunity to learn moves by some of the world's leading dancers and dance makers. They are open to all levels of ability ages 16+, unless otherwise specified and cost £4 each.

Transaction fee applies: £1 for telephone bookings, online and concessionary bookings. No charge in person at Ticket Office.

Workshop schedule

Saturday 3 February

1.30 - 2.45pm
Contemporary: NDT2
NDT is a world-renowned contemporary dance company from The Netherlands. Their dancers are famous for their versatility, astonishing technique and virtuosic expression. Taught by one of NDT2’s dancers, this workshop will let you discover the dance language and repertoire of the company. Get inspired during the workshop, where you will work on improvisation and composition techniques and explore the ways the dancers work.

1.30 - 2.45pm
Contemporary (over 60’s focussed): Adrienne Hart
Led by choreographer Adrienne Hart, this workshop will explore the movements and creative tasks being used to create Hart’s newest commission for the Company of Elders, Sadler’s Wells’ resident over-60s company. Suitable for both over 60s dancers and dance artists working within the over 60s sector.

3.00 - 4.15pm
Contemporary: Candoco Dance Company
Candoco Dance Company's workshop will offer a fun and creative introduction to contemporary dance and Candoco’s inclusive practice. Led by Candoco dancers Welly O’Brien and Victoria Fox, the workshop is open to disabled and non-disabled dancers.

3.00 - 4.15pm
Rumba: Ella Mesma
Led by Ella Mesma who premiered her work Ladylike at Sadler’s Wells in 2017, this fun and dynamic workshop will explore the Cuban dance style Rumba. Originally, “Rumba” meant party. The workshop will focus on the style “Guaguanco”.

4.30 - 5.45pm
Break Dance: Yeah Yellow
Yeah Yellow dancer and choreographer Bee D, has been involved in many break dance battles around the world and is well known on the circuit for his constant research into new break dance movement along with his own original and unique style. In this workshop, he will demonstrate how you can develop your own style by creating your own individual movements in top rock and foot work.

4.30 - 5.45pm
Flamenco: Jesús Carmona
Flamenco star Jesús Carmona will introduce "ALEGRIAS". It is a "Flamenco palo", a musical form which is usually played in a lively rhythm and is one of the structurally strictest forms of flamenco. In this workshop, Jesús will demonstrate all the different sections of this traditional dance. Please bring soft shoes - flamenco shoes are not allowed in the studio.
