Open Art Surgery is hip hop theatre dissected, examined and put under the microscope.

Breakin' Convention invites you to delve into the mind and souls of some of the UK’s finest hip hop artists as they dare to try something new, dangerous and exciting!

After spending a week working under the guidance of two of the UK's leading theatre mentors, Jonzi D and Ivan Blackstock, our established and emerging artists present their work. See it for the first time, hear their creative journey and then share your feedback in this unique night of performances and live discussion.

For the first time we go back and enjoy a classic Open Art Surgery piece, revised and updated for 2018, alongside brand new pieces before they evolve and continue to grow.

Open Art Surgery is not about presenting finished work. The focus is to develop theatre skills with hip hop artists and to experiment with new ideas. Hosted by Jonzi D, you're invited to question and critique the work shown, giving you the opportunity to get inside the minds of the artists, and giving artists themselves the unique opportunity to question their audience.

Chaldon Williams (BirdGang Ltd), Josephine ‘Realitie’ Rollings, Olly Engele (Gambinos Crew), Paris Crossley, Viki Čerček and Villains Crew.

Open Art Surgery may contain language or content unsuitable for younger children.
