Alina Cojocaru, lead principal dancer with Sadler’s Wells Associate Company English National Ballet and resident guest artist with Hamburg Ballet, curates and performs in a new programme of classical and contemporary works.

The incandescent and illustrious Romanian ballerina is joined on stage by some very special guests, including Danish ballet star Johan Kobborg, whose “uncanny synchronicity” (Financial Times) with Cojocaru has marked out their partnership as one of ballet’s great collaborations. For Les Lutins, Marcelino Sambé (National Dance Award for Best Male Dancer) will be joining Cojocaru.

The programme features both new pieces and existing classics, including Sir Frederick Ashton’s iconic one-act ballet Marguerite and Armand, which will see Alina joined by English National Ballet principal Francesco Gabriel Frola. Soundtrack will include Luke Howard’s Salt Flats performed by Lior and Shards, Light Ascending performed by Shards, and Spare performed by the Aurelia Quartet.

This ballet follows creations by contemporary choreographers Tim Rushton, Juliano Nunes and Johan Kobborg, interspersed with short films. These films, which take a look at Cojocaru’s life, training and career, will include a specially commissioned film by Kim Brandstrup, as well as an excerpt from his 2018 film Faces. Featuring live performances from Margarita Balanas (Cello), Sasha Grynyuk (Piano) and Charlie Siem (Violin), this will truly be a mesmerising show from one of the world’s most accomplished ballerinas.

★★★★ "A cherishable chance to catch one of ballet’s greatest ever partnerships. What a treat to see them once again, still, in each other’s arms"
★★★★ "Goosebumpy delight and gems"
"Is there a ballerina today held in more widespread affection than Alina Cojocaru?"
