Sadler's Wells Sampled workshops are a fantastic and rare opportunity to learn moves and technique by some of the world's leading dancers and dance makers. They are open to all levels of ability ages 16+. They cost £6 each

A transaction fee applies: £3 for telephone bookings, online and concessionary bookings. There is no charge in person at Ticket Office.

Workshop schedule

Saturday 1 February

1.00pm - 2.15pm
Tango with Camila Alegre and Ezequiel Lopez
This workshop is an introduction to the basics of Argentine Tango by one of Buenos Aires finest Tango couples Ezequiel Lopez & Camila Alegre. 2015 World Tango Champions and performers in German Cornejo’s Tango Fire, Ezequiel & Camila will teach you the basic steps of Tango plus give you a glimpse into the unspoken directives, the lead dancer gives their dance partner making Tango the most sensual of all the dance forms.

Swing with Brat Pack
Swing Patrol and their performance troupe, Brat Pack, are a vibrant, energetic bunch who love everything vintage and are passionate about their swing dancing. Swing Patrol know how to put on a show and create a whole lot of fun. In this workshop you will learn one of the most joyful dance styles, the Charleston! This social dance means we learn and dance with lots of different people, making it a great way to make new friends while learning a new skill.

Hip Hop Theatre with Far From The Norm
Centred around groove, musicality and intricacy, you will delve into the repertoire and creative processes from the award-winning production BLKDOG. Using hip hop as a foundation, join Far From The Norm as they lead a challenging yet inspiring dance theatre workshop.

4.00pm - 5.15pm
Contemporary with Company Wayne McGregor
Company Wayne McGregor dancer Rebecca Bassett Graham will lead an open level dance workshop that introduces the repertoire and choreographic methods of Wayne McGregor. This insightful and unique session at Sadler’s Wells will include a high energy warm up followed by teaching of material and creative tasks.

Old Way Voguing with Diva Miyake-Mugler
Welcoming UK's very own Diva Miyake-Mugler. Being one of the first of this generation to help establish and build a ballroom scene in London and bring knowledge to the kids. In this workshop you will be introduced to the history and roots of the Ballroom Culture and Voguing and will be taken through movement and execution leaving you inspired and uplifted.

First Circle

Enjoy these short dance films curated by Nowness, in collaboration with V&A Friday Late and Sadler’s Wells. Celebrating the journey of three distinct artists, discover what inspires them to dance.

Second circle

Watch the premiere screenings of MADHEAD by the National Youth Dance Company, a specially commissioned short film inspired by the full-length theatre work. Directed by Ben Williams and choreographed by 2018-19 Guest Artistic Director Botis Seva.

Friday 31 January evening

Swing Patrol and their performance troupe, Brat Pack, are a vibrant, energetic bunch who love everything vintage and are passionate about swing dancing. From the basic dance steps to fancy footwork and everything in between, Brat Pack know how to put on a show and create a whole lot of fun! You can catch them on the mezzanine pre-show, interval and after the curtain has come down. With live music from Palace Avenue Swing, playing selections of the finest in jazz, blues and swing.

One of the most famous dances of the swing era is the Charleston. This popular dance will forever be associated with the glamour and fashion of the time. Watch and enjoy as Brat Pack kick, swing, and tap their way back to the Jazz Age.

19:10 – 19:25
The mother of all swing dances is the Lindy Hop. Originating from the jazz clubs of Harlem New York City in the late 30s and early 40s, this fast and energetic performance is guaranteed to bring a smile to the dancers and the audience alike!

At the interval
Also hailing from the swing era, jam circles can pop up at any time when the energy and mood is just right. Come and cheer on the jammers as the dancers clear a circle and take turns showing you their very best tricks!

Brought to you by Breakin’ Convention, Freestyle Funk Forum is hip hop’s answer to 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?' Featuring four dancers, a beatboxer and live music, no two shows are ever the same in this spontaneous collection of skits brought to life through the elements of hip hop from dance and beatboxing to turntablism and rap. Get here early to enjoy the proper Breakin’ Convention experience.

Battle the greatest lyricists using… the contents of your pocket! Pull out the most unexpected items and be amazed as our eloquent MCs find ways to rhyme with just about anything you give them!
