Northern Ballet returns to live performance with an exciting programme of world-class dance.

Contemporary Cuts 2021 showcases the signature talent and vitality of Northern Ballet, including two London premières. Look back on the ups and downs of 2020 with Kenneth Tindall’s new work States of Mind and experience raw emotion in Amaury Lebrun’s For An Instant where the dancers portray fleeting moments from our lives.

You’ll also enjoy excerpts from Jonathan Watkins’ 1984 and Cathy Marston’s Jane Eyre, performed to live piano, and audience favourite Little Monsters by Demis Volpi set to music by Elvis Presley.

Performances will be costumed with minimal set and performed to recorded music, with live piano accompanying Jane Eyre. Repertoire is subject to change.

Image description: Several separate actions happen at once: in the background, a man with bare torso extends his arms to the sides with wrists drooping, evoking sculptures of Jesus on the cross. The arms of an unseen person wrap round him from behind. In front, a young man crouches, taking the hand of a dancer. Her other arm and one leg are extended up behind her in high arabesque. Another dancer is mid-jump, both arms flung above her head, legs crossed in front.

Image description: Seven dancers are on stage in misty blue light. At the front, four are in shadow, making dynamic shapes with arms and knees bent. In a line across the back, three men stand with arms raised wide above their heads. They wear white costumes evoking the Victorian period – tailcoat, waistcoat, knee-length frock.
