Wild Card returns but with a difference. This summer we are turning the building inside out and present a unique opportunity for audiences to experience parts of the building not usually seen.

American-born, London-based choreographer and performance artist Christopher Matthews curates a special immersive event featuring movement-based installations scattered throughout the building, inviting audiences on a self-guided journey of discovery. The event opens a dialogue on themes of gender, class structure, intersections of the classical and contemporary, icon vs self, and pop culture.

Taking the Janet Jackson lyrics “my body’s an exhibition baby” from the song Feedback (2008) as a curatorial provocation, we are invited to question the relationship between the body as object and spectatorship, echoed in the song lyrics describing the sensual urges of two bodies coming into contact. Through this event, Matthews builds on his practice of investigating the relationship between dance’s historical position and how it is mirrored in pop culture.

International performance makers and visual artists present a series of over twenty multidisciplinary works through video, photography, collage, sound, text and live movement installations. The event includes the World Premiere of Matthews’ own work My Body’s Number 1 as well as his work for gallery spaces, Lads.
