Associate Artists

More about the photographic exhibition

Launched in 2013, Sadler’s Wells’ Associate Artists’ Portraits is a visual arts project. It celebrates both the 15th anniversary of our building and the crucial role that the Associate Artists have played in our success.

Our Associate Artists represent some of today’s leading choreographers, dancers, lighting designers, musicians and composers. Their dedication and contribution to the art form has helped to push creative boundaries and engage audiences worldwide.

As Alastair Spalding CBE, Artistic Director and Chief Executive at Sadler’s Wells explained,

For me it is incredibly important that Sadler’s Wells has artists working and creating new work in it. It changes the feel of the place. The first Associates were appointed in 2005. Coincidently, on our 15th anniversary, there were 15 Associate Artists. It seemed the perfect way to celebrate whilst also marking the appointment of our 16th Associate Artist.

Each Associate was invited to work with a photographer of their choice and choose their own composition. The portraits offer a deeper insight into the artists. They project is currently on public display in the theatre’s foyer.

We asked each of our Associates a few short questions about the composition of their portraits. To read the short interviews, click on the Associates below.
