New Adventures presents Quiet Revolutions
Quiet Revolutions is a vérité-style short film capturing the grit and grace of community dance artists navigating financial precariousness and personal doubt. Following Phoebe, a dance artist nurturing creativity in her community, the film shows her finding purpose through the very connections she facilitates.
Made to mark ten years of New Adventures’ Overture programme, the film highlights a decade of radical, unseen labour. To date, Overture has supported 157 dance artists teaching in communities and schools across the country, providing them with extensive in-person and online development sessions alongside bespoke mentoring to keep them creating when the world isn’t watching.
Behind the scenes
Every day, in halls and community spaces across the country, dance artists are quietly bringing the joy of movement to thousands.
Quiet Revolutions puts these unsung stories centre stage. To mark 10 years of our Overture programme, creators Kerry Biggin and Tom Hobden sit down to explain more about the importance of the Overture programme and why they chose to make a cinematic, narrative film to celebrate a decade of impact.

Phoebe: Make everyone feel seen.
Okay.
Hi Mum.
Four, five, six, yes!
Remember, everybody can dance.
See you later Mum.
Put it in the microwave for like two minutes thirty.
Thank you so much, have a lovely day.
I said it to mum earlier, if you just go to the fridge, it’s on the second shelf.
All she has to do is put it in the microwave.
Aaron, look, it’s quite a busy day hun.
Okay, love you, bye.
The power is in the community.
Everyone ok, yeah?
Good to see you.
It’s fine we’ve got a couple of minutes.
Yeah, good, good. Into a circle.
Really extending right to the edges of their fingertips.
Lovely everyone. Opening out slow.
Taking it up above our heads, bringing our arms down.
Really through the fingertips, lovely!
Okay, can you work together in partners to work on that for the strong person and also collecting clouds.
[Sigh] Mum.
Yeah exactly it can be any direction this one.
Really nice work everyone.
Thank you, see you, have a nice evening.
Yeah, I’m fine. Love you, bye.
Yeah yeah, five minutes.
Where did I put it? Which page? Where is it?
Come on, pull it together.
See you next week.
