Pina Bausch The Rite of Spring, an on-screen celebration
An up close and intimate portrayal of Pina Bausch’s The Rite of Spring on Digital Stage for a limited time only. Captured at Sadler’s Wells in 2024, the film celebrates the 50th anniversary of Pina Bausch’s seminal work.
The Rite of Spring is danced by a specially assembled company of dancers from the African continent with music by Stravinsky, in which a ‘chosen one’ is sacrificed changing the season from winter to spring.
The film release follows sell-out performances across the globe and coincides with the company’s appearance on stage at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the original venue for Stravinsky’s groundbreaking ballet in 1913.
The idea of ‘exchange’ is central in this collaboration between the Pina Bausch Foundation (Germany), École des Sables (Senegal) and Sadler’s Wells (UK).
Available until 8 December 2025.
Content Warning: This production features some nudity.
