SAFE A film by Eva Rothschild
SAFE is a single-take film that documents a group of teenage boys playing, chatting, chasing and dancing on the pyramid playground commissioned by Create and London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and made by Eva Rothschild at Parsloes Park in Dagenham. Challenging the often negative attitudes towards groups of boys, the film shows us young men unselfconsciously inhabiting public space, enjoying physical engagement with the structure and each other in a spirit of joy, discovery and friendship.
The boys are drawn from the school most local to the sculpture Jo Richardson Community School and ABC (Academy Breakin Convention) and the different age groups were unknown to each other before the shoot. They were supported in the studio by Far From the Norm in the lead up to filming. ABC students also supplied music for part of the film.
