New Commissions

Since becoming a producing house, Sadler’s Wells has received much generous support for the commissioning of new work from a number of trusts and foundations including the Garfield Weston Foundation, Foyle Foundation, and Sir Siegmund Warburg Voluntary Settlement. The most substantial grant to date was generously given by the Monument Trust, to significantly enhance the support available to choreographers and companies working through Sadler’s Wells.

By supporting the creation of new work, these Trusts and Foundations give vital support to choreographers and small dance companies as they develop and push the boundaries of dance. Receiving a commission is frequently a transformative milestone for those involved. With the technical, advisory and financial support that Sadler’s Wells offers, the prohibitive cost barriers of creating new work and accessing the necessary technology are broken down. In addition, by having the backing of Sadler’s Wells, artists often find that they can leverage additional support from other investors.

Sadler’s Wells commissions and co-productions are core to our annual programme and have played a critical role in the careers of the artists involved. We are committed to working with established artists such as our Associates. Akram Khan, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Jasmin Vardimon, as well up and coming talent like Wilkie Branson and Daniel Linehan, to ensure a strong programme of work across all our stages.
