Sadler’s Wells and Universal Music UK with ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company are auditioning dancers for the national and international tour of hit production Message In A Bottle, directed and choreographed by Kate Prince (ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company) and inspired by the hits of music icon, Sting.

What we are looking for…

We are looking for world-class dancers with the highest levels of skill.

We welcome dancers from all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds who are charismatic and highly skilled whose abilities span more than just one genre of dance, including but not limited to contemporary, breaking, locking, popping, house dance, krump, African dance, lindy hop, salsa, experimental and freestyle.

We want to work with dancers who love to tell stories and feel comfortable doing character work. There is a lot of ensemble work in the production and performers will need to be adaptable to different styles and able to follow choreography. Each dancer will learn several roles. You will be working with ZooNation: The Kate Prince Company

This is a barefoot production, there is no requirement to speak or sing.

Essential criteria

  • Highly skilled physical dance ability and comfortable with storytelling through choreography
  • Proficiency in more than one genre of dance
  • Ease at picking up material/choreography
  • Prepared to learn 2 to 3 roles

Please be aware that as a requirement of the engagement, you will be working

  • In a dark space and with flashing lights (no strobe)
  • In an area with loud sound
  • As part of a large ensemble/group
  • Barefoot throughout the whole show

Applicants must be aged 18+ at the time of the audition.

Dates of the engagement

The engagement spans April 2023 through to May 2024, and includes multiple international tour legs with some breaks in between. We are looking for dancers who can commit to all tour legs.

7th November 2022 – successful applicants will be contacted for a live audition

Step 2 – first audition in Paris or London:

In your application, you will have the choice to have your first audition in Paris or London

PARIS : Live audition on 17th, 18th or 19th November 2022

LONDON : Live audition on 21st, 23rd and/or 24th November 2022

At the end of the first audition, successful applicants will be contacted for recall audition in London

Step 3 – recall audition:

24th November 2022 – recall in London for successful candidates

NB: at each stage unsuccessful applicants will be contacted.

Step 1

Please complete and submit the application form

To do so, you will need the following:

  • Details of your experience and training
  • Record the 2 choreographies requested in the application (follow the tutorials)
  • Video links of you dancing / demos: Ideally a freestyle in your strongest style and if possible some other styles to show your versatility (not exceeding 5 mins)

and

  • If you have one, a professional demo/show reel (although recent graduates are also welcome)

Please note: without a video link where you can be clearly identified we cannot progress your application.

Strictly NO ADMISSION on the day. The audition is by invitation only.

Deadline for applications is 12:00 (noon) BST on 26 October 2022

Unfortunately, late applications cannot be considered.

Please note:

  • Regrettably, no contributions can be made towards any travel required for the Paris and London based audition and/or recall in London.
  • Sadler’s Wells can sponsor applicants with a Certificate of Sponsorship (subject to relevant compliances), enabling them to travel and work in the UK exclusively for this engagement.
  • Depending on country of residence, some applicants must also hold a valid work permit or visa enabling them to legally work in the UK for the duration of the engagement.

When will I receive the result of my application?

Step 1 (online application): We will respond to both successful and unsuccessful applications, on Monday 7th November 2022.

Step 2 (first audition): We will inform candidates of the outcome of the first audition at the end of the day and invite successful candidates to the recall audition in London.

Step 3 (recall audition): We will inform both successful and unsuccessful candidates at the end of the live audition process.

I missed the deadline, will you accept a late application?

No. Unfortunately, we cannot accept late applications.

Who will be on the audition panel?

The online submissions will be run by Resident Director Lizzie Gough and producers from Sadler’s Wells and Universal Music UK.

The first auditions in both Paris and London will be run by Associate Choreographer Lukas McFarlane and Resident Director Lizzie Gough.

The recall audition in London will be run by Choreographer Kate Prince, Associate Choreographer Lukas McFarlane and Resident Director Lizzie Gough.

How many people are you looking for the project?

At this stage of the process, we are looking for 4-6 people (still TBC).

Do I need to have had formal dance training?

No, we are simply looking for world-class dancers with the highest levels of skill.

Note: the video will not be shared and will be used as an audition material only.

Tutorial & Choreographies
  • In the online application you will find a tutorial video learning a small section of various choreographies from the show
  • You will be asked to record yourself presenting these choreographies and submit it
  • Information about the music used for these sections will be provided
What dance video format should I provide for the application form?
  • Landscape preferred
  • It must be a link provided in the application form
  • Please indicate the video password when necessary in the “additional comment” box

Step 2: First live audition in Paris or London - For selected candidates only

Paris : I am not free on 17th, 18th or 19th November 2022 for the first live audition dates, can I still apply?

No. Unfortunately, you need to be able to attend the live auditions.

London : I am not free on 21st, 23rd or 24th November 2022 for the first live audition dates, can I still apply?

No. Unfortunately, you need to be able to attend the live auditions.

Step 3: Recall audition in London - For selected candidates only

I am not free on 24th November 2022 for the recall date, can I still apply?

No. Unfortunately, you need to be able to attend the live auditions.

Can I audition by video and not attend the live audition?

The first step of the application is digital. Once selected for the audition in the studio, unfortunately we will not accept video auditions for this final step.

Can you give me more details about the live audition process/structure?

For this third-round audition, invited dancers will be asked to participate in a workshop led by Associate Choreographer Lukas McFarlane and Resident Choreographer Lizzie Gough.

Do I need to prepare a solo for the live audition?

No, this is a group workshop audition.

What clothes should I wear to audition in?

Clothing that you feel comfortable dancing in. This is a barefoot audition, please be prepared to wear no shoes.

Do I need to bring a printed copy of my headshot?

No, you only need to send a digital copy by email as part of the application process.

Do I need to bring food?

Food will not be provided, depending on your call time you may want to bring some with you.

Please note: it is not permitted to eat inside the studios but there are public spaces in and outside the building where it is fine to do so.

I am not from Paris or London, can my travel and/or accommodation be reimbursed?

No, accommodation, travel and subsistence must be covered by the applicant.
