Two dancers in black raise their arms, facing different directions.

Dance and visual art combine in this exploration of the fragility of connection.

In the Quiet of Us by Georgia Tegou is a duet tuned to micro-signals. It explores the fragile nature of human connection through the lens of the brain’s architecture. A delicate and raw examination of relationships, it unfolds at the thresholds where the smallest gesture, delay, or misreading can alter everything.

Two performers meet in a shifting space, a room, a house, an operating theatre, a synapse – the connective void between brain neurons. At times they appear as humans, at others as electrical waves moving through a network, navigating a world where connection depends on precision. Here, a single missed signal can lead the system to reorganise, collapse, or form new connections.

The work was created in dialogue with architect-curator Andrew Borg Wirth, features a live score composed and performed by Alexandros Miaris, combining prepared piano and modular synth. It draws on the Tegos Tapes, a rare archive of microneurosurgery footage set to music, created by neurosurgeon Dr. Stergios Tegos in collaboration with composer Vangelis. Myth surfaces through stories such as Tristan and Isolde, and Theseus, where meaning changes with misinterpretation, and missed signals become a recurring motif.
