Taster dance workshops Afro Fusion

Workshop Network

Level: Beginners

This series of Afro Fusion workshops takes us on a mini tour of West Africa, exploring grooves that originate from Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Togo and Ghana.

Dancer, teacher and choreographer Patience J shares some Afro dance moves to bring us some joy, along with participants Bella, Dahlia and Ranjini, who are dancing these moves for the first time.

Patience invites us to add our own sauce, spice and seasoning – so have fun with it, bring your individuality and make it your own!

These workshops can be done standing or seated and can be adapted to all levels and abilities.

Gweta

4 minutes

The Gweta is a move that’s all about dodging those haters! On our exploration of Afro Fusion dance, this move takes us to Togo. The move is characterised by a wiggle in the legs, and looks a bit like picking something up and moving it away. You can also experiment with different levels, taking it high and low.

Network

5 minutes

Network is a fun, social dance that can be seen at parties, in the club and at other social occasions. This groove comes from Ghana and it’s a bit like pulling up a long pair of socks! It involves coordinating the upper and lower body, and you can speed it up or slow it down depending on your level.
