A dancer wearing a dark t-shirt and pants stands on a dimly lit stage, making an expressive gesture with one arm extended and the other hand near the chest.

Open Art Surgery is back and bolder than ever. Step inside the minds of six hip hop artists as they push their creativity.

Across one intensive week, these incredible artists artists devise and develop brand new hip hop theatre performances with guidance from hip hop theatre pioneer Jonzi D and seasoned mentors Anthony Ekundayo Lennon, Sean Edwards ‘Mo’Sean and Jade Hackett. What emerges is raw and fearless.

Open Art Surgery gives an inside look into the creative process. After each performance, audiences are invited to offer feedback, ask questions, and help shape the future of the work.

Open Art Surgery isn’t about polished productions; it’s about experimentation, craft, and the evolution of ideas. It’s a space where artists stretch their hip hop theatre-making skills and test concepts that may become the next ground-breaking piece in hip hop theatre.

By breaking the fourth wall and opening up dialogue, Open Art Surgery creates a rare exchange between artists and audiences. It is not to be missed in the Breakin’ Convention creative calendar.

The artists who will be performing at this year’s Open Art Surgery include Kaner Scott, Milan Valencia, Mikee Trice, Tiegan Doyle, Jevan Howard-Jones and Emmanuel Lee ‘Duce’.

Hosted by Jonzi D.
