Three female Brazilian choreographers. Three distinctive visions.

The internationally acclaimed São Paulo Dance Company returns to the UK & Ireland with Brazilian Perspectives – a vibrant triple bill celebrating three powerful female voices from Brazil’s contemporary dance scene.

Opening with Agora by Cassi Abranches, the evening begins with an exhilarating explosion of rhythm and energy. Colourful, flirtatious and exuberant, the work explores time and rhythm as dancers’ bodies are sculpted by the percussive beats and bass grooves of Afro-Brazilian fusion.

Premiering in London, Umbó by Leilane Teles speaks of an ancestry that inhabits us. Presenting a ritual of inspiration and desire, the work blends evocative vocals with the rhythmic textures of Afro-Brazilian traditions, exploring the process of turning what inspires us into something uniquely our own.

The evening culminates with the London premiere also of Est.ação by Lili de Grammont, transporting the dancers into a world of constant arrivals and departures. Like a train station, fleeting encounters unfold as communication, relationships and our experience of time shift around us. Exploring questions around climate change alongside the unpredictability of human connection, the choreography moves seamlessly between humour, tension and celebration.

Performed by the exceptional dancers of São Paulo Dance Company, Brazilian Perspectives offers a vivid snapshot of contemporary Brazilian choreography – presenting three distinctive and passionate artistic voices.
