Shahnal Shah Artist-Led Session [online]

Garba: A living tradition

Prices from: £0.00
+ £4.00 transaction fee
A group of dancers in red, black and gold traditional outfits perform in a circle, with arms raised and linked during a festive cultural dance.

This workshop is an interactive exploration of traditional Garba, a folk practice from Gujarat in India. Participants will be introduced to traditional Garba songs, their meanings and cultural context, alongside rhythmic clapping patterns and rooted circular movement.

A central element of this workshop is the opportunity to experience singing, clapping and movement simultaneously, allowing participants to engage with Garba as an immersive and collective practice. Participants are then invited to explore their own creative responses to the traditional movement  vocabulary, considering how it can inspire new artistic possibilities, with space to listen, reflect, share and create together.

Participation is flexible, with options to engage in ways that feel comfortable for each individual, and activities can be adapted to different needs and abilities. No previous experience of Garba or Indian dance forms is required.

This is a hybrid session, taking place in person and online. If you would prefer to attend this workshop in person, please click here for further information and to book.
