Silvia Titotto Artist-Led Session [online]
Living Systems, Moving Bodies
This 3.5-hour laboratory will move between poetic movement and scientific observation. Led by researcher and choreographer Dr Silvia Titotto, it will function as a living inquiry into how principles of natural growth (morphogenesis) and spontaneous organisation (self-assembly) can be translated into choreographic processes and embodied experience.
Treating the body as a site of evolving geometry, we will explore kinesphere, joint transformations, isolation and spatial organisation within a wider context of artistic and scientific bio-inspiration. The studio will become a responsive environment where shifting temporal states and tactile dynamics (smooth, crisp, spiky, resistant, fluid) develop from individual experimentation into duets, collective formations and emergent group systems.
Drawing on the touch-sensitive responsiveness of Mimosa pudica, the rooted adaptability of the Dancing Tree, and the swarm behaviour of social insects, we will investigate how biological mechanisms can generate movement rather than serve as visual metaphors. We’ll explore sensitivity, structural transformation, proximity, collective organisation, and the interplay between stability and change. The workshop will challenge conventional dance logics, creating more space for authenticity, autonomy and choreographic authorship.
This is a hybrid session, taking place in person and online. If you would prefer to attend this workshop in person, please click here for further information and to book.

About Silvia Titotto
Dr Silvia Titotto is an interdisciplinary choreographer, dance artist, researcher and educator working across choreography, architecture, biomimetics, technological innovation, 4D printing, installation art, classical ballet, Tanztheater and contemporary performance. Her interdisciplinary research has included the development of innovative bioinspired design solutions, while her artistic research investigates how principles found in living systems can be translated into choreographic tools that generate new movement vocabularies rather than imitate natural forms.
Drawing on a background spanning architecture, design work within naval engineering and Vaganova ballet training, she works with biomechanics, geometry, origami-based structures, kinetics and kinematics, self-assembly, modelling and coding as choreographic materials. Her practice translates natural mechanisms into experimental movement and spatial systems, enabling artists to transform embodied patterns, expand their physical repertoire and actively shape choreographic space.
Across theatre, outdoor, site-specific and installation environments, Titotto approaches choreography as a dynamic system in which bodies, forces, structures, light and space continually reorganise one another. Her work has been presented in the United States, Brazil and across Europe, while her academic and artistic trajectory spans two PhDs completed in Brazil and Italy, postdoctoral fellowships, peer-reviewed publications, awards and distinctions, international teaching, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
