Creative Learning and Community Engagement

Sadler’s Wells provides transformational dance experiences through our productions and cultural learning programmes. We link our creative learning projects closely to our artistic programme and offer community access to our world-class facilities, practitioners and artists

"Arts access initiatives can look calculating and insincere: exercises in box ticking to satisfy funding bodies. But you never get that feeling with Sadler’s Wells, which constantly restates its belief in the power of dance to change lives"
Luke Jennings, THE OBSERVER

Get into Dance

A community engagement scheme targeted at residents from low-income households in Islington, delivered in collaboration with local partners including community centres and housing associations.
The scheme welcomes new audiences by offering discounted or complementary tickets to a wide range of performances.
Members of the scheme are also invited to career open days, rehearsals, backstage tours and events.

Associate Schools

We support Islington schools in embedding arts activity in their curriculum by designing experiences for children and young people to watch, explore and critically engage with dance.

Art of Age

Our popular over 60s programme encourages older people to dance and aims to change the way audiences usually relate age and dance.

The Lilian Baylis Arts Club offers a weekly programme of talks, workshops and events linked to our artistic programme, while longstanding classes at local community centres attract older dancers keen to enjoy the benefits to physical and mental health.

Company of Elders is our resident over 60s performing company who create new works with artists each year, performing in England and abroad and raising interest in dance for older people.

We manage Ballet Classes and Creative Classes for older dancers of all levels of experience.

We also host on a regular basis the Elixir Festival, a weekend celebration of older dancers.

Community Project

Sadler's Wells regularly produces a large scale project, performed on our main stage. These projects draw together casts from local schools and the surrounding community in North London.
