A wondrous tale of a young man’s journey from Bangladesh to Britain.

Akram Khan Company brings back its much-loved production of Chotto Desh, ready to capture the imagination of a new generation of younger audiences and their families.

Chotto Desh, which mean ‘small homeland’, draws on Akram Khan’s unique cross-cultural storytelling, creating a compelling tale of a boy’s dreams and memories from Britain to Bangladesh. Adapted by Sue Buckmaster from Khan’s Olivier Award-winning solo DESH, this heart-warming story follows a young man trying to find his place in the world.

It’s a tale full of wonder, in which a man returns to childhood memories of his grandparents and the stories they told him. Blending Kathak and contemporary dance with an exquisite mix of spoken text, dreamlike animation, visuals and specially composed music, Chotto Desh is an enchanting and poignant dance-theatre experience for children aged 7+ and their families to enjoy together.

Akram Khan (Jungle Book Reimagined, Gigenis) is one of the most original and celebrated choreographers of international dance, and an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells. Sue Buckmaster, Artistic Director of Theatre-Rites, is the fourth generation of theatre practitioners in her family.

Coproduced by the MAC, Belfast

Originally co-commissioned by MOKO Dance, Akram Khan Company, Sadler’s Wells London, DanceEast, Théâtre de la Ville Paris, Mercat de les Flors Barcelona, Biennale de la danse de Lyon 2016 and Stratford Circus Arts Centre.
