Casper Dillen Artist-Led Session [online]
Sport / Choreographic Structure
+ £4.00 transaction fee
This workshop will work with the structures of sport and games as a framework for creating performance. We’ll explore how limitations, rules, physical challenges, and the drama of games can generate choreography.
We will work with objects (balls) and bodies to create tasks that sit at the edge of achievability. Hard enough to demand effort, easy enough to be possible. Offering various versions to play with. The tension between struggle and overcoming becomes the material of our performance. At times resulting in joy, play, celebration, drama. Sports have rules, scores, and stakes. We’ll borrow and adapt these frameworks to generate ‘goal oriented movement’; a principle of attention. For example, focusing on ‘catching a ball’ rather than focusing on straightening a leg. The session alternates between physical exercises and short philosophical interludes where we discuss what we’re exploring.
The Promise
By the end of the workshop, each participant will have collaboratively created short, repeatable choreographic phrases that they can take with them.
