Flamenco’s finest blend of music and dance in an homage to a true master
This performance pays tribute to Agustín Castellón Campos, otherwise known as Sabicas, who revolutionized flamenco guitar and brought it to the world stage. Born in Pamplona in 1912, Sabicas spent much of his life abroad after the Spanish Civil War, captivating audiences globally with his virtuosity. He transformed the guitar into a solo voice and became a symbol of flamenco’s ability to evolve while honouring its roots.
Three acclaimed guitarists and one revered dancer pay tribute to his legacy:
Gerardo Núñez is one of flamenco’s most innovative guitarists, blending tradition with jazz. A longtime admirer of Sabicas, Núñez’s work reflects both deep respect and a drive to expand flamenco’s expressive range.
Antonio Rey, a two-time Latin Grammy winner, fuses flamenco with classical and jazz influences. Inspired by masters like Sabicas, Rey’s bold, rhythmic style has earned him acclaim as a leading guitarist in modern flamenco.
Álvaro Martinete is a rising force and recognised as one of the most exciting guitarists of his generation. His debut album Seis Veredas and international performances show a command of traditional flamenco infused with personal innovation – an echo of Sabicas’s influence.
Olga Pericet, winner of Spain’s National Dance Prize, merges tradition with contemporary vision. Her tribute to legendary flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya – Sabicas’ iconic collaborator – links her directly to his legacy, reimagined through movement.
