Five strangers. One day. A detention that changes them forever.

Inspired by the 1985 classic The Breakfast Club comes a new dance theatre work by Phoenix Dance Theatre. Through a multicultural lens for a new generation, Sincerely, The Breakfast Club reveals how shared vulnerability can break down stereotypes and create moments of genuine connection. Set within the confines of a school library, five strangers emerge from their cliques for a Saturday detention, realising that they have more in common than they once thought. As poetry and literature seep into the score from the bookshelves, the characters are confronted and come to embrace resistance, insecurity, longing, and unexpected tenderness.

Following the success of the company’s award-nominated 2025 spring tour, Inside Giovanni’s Room, the creative team comes together again for this new work inspired by one of the most iconic coming-of-age stories, with music composed by Marc Strobel, dramaturgy from Tonderai Munyevu, alongside choreography by Marcus Jarrell Willis.

Don’t you forget about them.

Founded in 1981, Phoenix Dance Theatre is one of the UK’s leading contemporary dance companies and one of Sadler’s Wells National Partner Companies. Based in Leeds, the partnership aims to create dynamic, diverse and relevant work that embodies the company’s rich Caribbean history and shines a light on cultural narratives often overlooked or untold.
