Power & Respect Weekend at Sadler’s Wells East

As part of The Music is Black Festival, we’re throwing open our doors for you to come dance with us and soak in the vibes with The Dance Floor is Black.


Each weekend of the festival an incredible choreographer curates a club night responding to different genres of Black British music.

The Power & Respect weekend celebrates Black women and non-binary people in all their glory, centring Black women’s contribution to music on stage, behind the scenes and across infrastructures that make scenes possible.

For this weekend, Jade Hackett dives into the world of Lovers Rock and Reggae, BORN N BREAD present a vibe session for the whole family with Toasty Tots and L’attise Rhoden & Glade Marie share the decks on Sunday.

Let Love Be Your Rock – Jade Hackett

Sat 11 Jul, 7pm – midnight

Jade Hackett showcases original group work set to Lovers Rock and Reggae music, as well as a live set from The Queen of Lovers Rock, Carroll Thompson.

As a choreographer and movement director, Jade Hackett has contributed to Get Up Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical and For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets To Heavy, she is Associate Director on One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at The Old Vic. As a dancer she has worked extensively with ZooNation, performing in Sylvia and The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party among others.

Family Dance: BORN N BREAD presents Toasty Tots

Join us during the day and get ready to dance with the whole family!

BORN N BREAD isn’t just a collective, it’s a sisterhood! Now they’re turning it up with Toasty Tots, a one-of-a-kind vibe session for the whole family.

Expect an hour of straight fun: DJ sets, sing-alongs, party games, dance breaks, and feel-good tunes.

Rooted in community, joy, and music, they’re here to create a space that’s inclusive, non-judgmental, and full of vibes.

Sunday Sessions: L’attise Rhoden & Glade Marie

Come together and dance in a relaxed setting celebrating Black British music with our Sunday DJ sessions, as L’attise Rhoden & Glade Marie share the decks.
